USC Splashes to Victory

University of Southern California’s women’s swimming and diving team should consider taking a victory lap after harnessing three of the sport’s most coveted awards:  the 2011 Pac-10 Swimmer and Diver of the Year, as well as 2011 Women’s Diving Coach of the Year.

Katrinka Hosszu, a junior at the USC, was awarded not only Pac-10 female swimmer of the year, but the 2011 Honda Sports Award. Winning the Honda award also qualifies Hosszu as a top three athlete for the Collegiate Women’s Athlete of the Year. Hosszu also collected three titles at the NCAA Championships for victories in the 200 yard individual medley, 400 yard individual medley and 200 yard fly.

Teammate Victoria Isimatsu continued the awards with the accomplishment of the Pac-10 diver of the year for the third year in a row. Isimatsu is now the only women in Pac-10 history to win the award three consecutive years. Five conference titles also belong to Isimatsu for wins on the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.

Additionally, Hongping Li, the head diving coach, collected his seventh Pac-10 women’s diving coach of the year award. Li has been the head coach at USC for 11 years and continues to have success on both men's and women's sides.
